We had a lecture focused on elderly’s solitary death In order to realize a social security system with a working welfare. While people are living longer thanks to the development of medical treatment and the improvement of sanitation, the existence of the society that cannot adapt to the environmental change from forming a three generation family to living alone is also noticeable. To stop the elderly from dying alone, not only guarantees from the country and local government, but also the consideration of us residents on how to make the future of this region as resident self-governance is needed. For this reason, we had a group discussion in the theme of “What should we do in order to stop the elderly from dying alone in Matsuyama?”.

The aging of the population is progressing, which means that there is a possibility of people dying alone will increase. Taking some kind of measure will be the task of today. I too have lost my grandparents and today’s speech was very valuable to me. To stop the elderly from dying alone in Matsuyama, I want to find something we can do apart from activities in the whole region.

Through today’s lecture and discussion, I felt that the problem of solitary death is very serious and close to us. Even though Matsuyama has the lowest percentage of aged people compared to other cities in Ehime prefecture, solitary death is still there. I want to contribute to solving this problem by working voluntarily. I also thought that it is our task to create places for the youth to work in local regions in order to prevent families from becoming separated from each other.
