Students received a lecture from Prof. Imamura on the subject “Research cancer now! You can read the minds of people suffering from cancer as you observe the movement of their cancer cells”. Prof. Imamura introduced his experiences studying abroad as well as the latest knowledge for cancer treatment. Students discussed healthcare problems in Japan such as expensive new drugs which cannot be covered by the Japan’s universal healthcare insurance system. It is one of the serious problems in Japan that some off-label pharmaceuticals can treat cancer effectively but the treatment is too costly for many patients to afford because they are not covered by the insurance.
